Pequea Township’s on-lot program ties pumping to inspection, records, and system access. Ordinance 193-2016 applies to properties served by on-lot sewage disposal and establishes a regular three-year minimum after initial service. Sewer reaches some township areas, so begin with the parcel and utility status instead of treating every Pequea address the same.
The ordinance defines a complete visit
Pequea requires pumping through the main tank access, not a small inspection port. The ordinance calls for removal close to the tank bottom, with backflushing when needed, and requires observations about defective components, abnormal water level, return flow, building inflow, and surface signs near the absorption area.
Its report also captures system location and maintenance details. The owner is responsible for making sure Pequea Township receives the required report, even when the authorized agent prepares it. Ask for the homeowner copy and a clear filing plan before the truck leaves.
Every tank means more than the first lid
The ordinance addresses associated dosing, lift, and other tanks when the treatment tanks are pumped. A mound or pressure-dosed system can therefore require more than opening the first concrete chamber. Provide the permit drawing or describe alarms and additional lids so the quote covers the correct system.
Mechanical components follow their manufacturer’s maintenance requirements when those are more frequent than the township interval. A three-year tank date does not postpone annual attention that a pump, treatment unit, or control requires.
Risers and repeat access
Pequea’s ordinance requires risers to grade at the first inspection and pumping when they are not already present. Confirm how the current township applies that provision to the property, what lids are required, and whether installation appears as separate repair scope. A riser should provide safe access without admitting runoff.
- Bring the last Pequea report or extension approval.
- List treatment, pump, dosing, and grease tanks on the parcel.
- Keep the active field and reserved area free from truck traffic.
- Call the township before adding bedrooms or changing system design flow.
Pumper registration and lawful destination
Pequea requires pumper/hauler businesses operating in the township to register and document that removed septage will reach a DEP-approved site or facility. Pennsylvania also requires the residential septage transporter number on the sides and rear of the truck. Verify the current municipal list; this site does not represent itself as the registered operating company.
Pennsylvania may authorize treated beneficial use at permitted sites. A record should name the lawful destination rather than say material was simply taken “away.”
When a report finds malfunction evidence
Surface discharge, return flow, or sewage backup can trigger more than routine maintenance. Reduce water, keep people away from contamination, and contact the township SEO for repair direction. Do not accept an unpermitted relief pipe or repeated pumping schedule as a substitute for correcting an identified malfunction.
